Our first large space ship will also be a science and research vessel with node technology and smaller craft that function as probe and rovers smaller science and research vessels that can be retrieved and which can work on many surfaces even ice and water planets or moons gathering data and collecting reasearch in our solar system together with the mother ship a space vessel we have yet to create but have already designed many.
Right now however, we need to continue keeping ourselves scientifically and industrially grounded and busy improving what we already have and building better craft and work with what has already been built especially ships used for science research, humanitarian aid, the tourist trade and petroleum transportation.
In my youth, I remember reading about longevity of shipbuilding the problems with rust and solutions by scientists and was not privileged to see any follow-up data on the original theory that included new compounds as a new protocol on large ships to extend the life of the ship and prevent petroleum disasters.
After reading one article written in the early 80’s petroleum disasters continued to follow and looking to damage and at the death it caused to our environment and little seagulls unable to fly, I thought, are there any intelligent people on this earth? and Why hasn’t this technology been implemented?
